About Moke Hill Nuts

People have trouble saying Mokelumne Hill (hint: the accent is on the second syllable) so most of the locals just call it Moke Hill.

Moke Hill is a town of about 500 people, in Calaveras County, in the middle of California’s Gold Country, which is quickly becoming California’s Gold and Wine Country.  Moke Hill is the type of town where the locals still wave to one another and get together at the Winery on a Friday night for some delicious food, great wine, fun conversation and lively music.  A few years ago, our local historic hotel, the Hotel Leger, was featured on the Travel Channel’s “Hotel Impossible.”   The local townspeople got together with the show’s hosts and producers and “saved” the Hotel.  We were very lucky to have had that opportunity because since that show premiered our town has blossomed.  We now have a number of small businesses and a new award-winning winery, Renegade Winery, lining our Main Street.  Although we’ve seen an increase in tourism, Moke Hill boasts some of the most lovingly preserved Gold Rush buildings in the State, and a hotel and saloon that will take you back in time.  Besides great little shops, tasty food and delicious wines, there’s lots more to do nearby including hiking trails, lakes, fishing the Mokelumne River, horseback riding trails, skiing (both snow and water) and visiting Big Trees State Park.  You can start your day at the Moke-A-Java Cafe, located inside Moke Hill Nuts and Candies, with a delicious cup of java and a divine pastry.

All of the items at Moke Hill Nuts & Candies and Moke-A-Java Coffee House are the finest quality.  The food items are all from California’s Central Valley and are packaged in small batches to assure freshness and our coffee is roasted by Gold Country Coffee Roasters here in Calaveras County.  If you ever get the chance, stop by our store for a visit.  But, until then, thank you for visiting the website!
